ArcelorMittal Steel Plant
The Tubarao steel company is one of the most important plants of the Arcelor Mittal group in Brazil, a leading manufacturer of semi-finished steel products for the automotive industry.
The plant is located in the state of Espirito Santo in south-west Brazil. Its location connects it to an extensive network of roads and railways, as well as a large port complex, all of which facilitate access to raw materials. With around 5,000 workers, the plant has three blast furnaces and an annual production of 7.5 million tonnes.
ArcelorMittal Tubarao had a communications system based on analogue technology, but with the strong growth of the plant, this had already shown its limitations. It required a new system that had to be flexible in order to add new users and facilitate the growth of the network, and it was also important to improve coverage to optimise certain production processes.
In addition, the plant has type 5 working levels, with high risks of death and accidents, and the conditions are extreme, with high temperatures, large amounts of iron dust, high salinity, humid environments and high vibrations, so the communications system to be implemented had to offer high reliability and availability.
Thanks to Teltronic’s extensive experience in project management and the reliability of its NEBULA infrastructure, it was possible to implement a professional radio communications system in an enclave with very specific characteristics, such as a steel plant.
